About the Pre-School
Portreath Pre-School is a charity and committee run early years setting, located in the coastal village of Portreath. We are right in the heart of the village and value the strong community spirit that it offers. The beach and woods are right on our doorstep and we make regular use of them throughout the year to enhance and enrich our children’s play and learning experiences. 
We have well established links with the many different groups within the community and the local primary schools which our children move on to. We currently employ seven qualified and experienced practitioners who work in partnership with parents to help their children learn and develop. We feel that we offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity.

Children can start at the pre-school after they have reached 30 months of age (2 and a half years).

The Charity
The Pre-school is a charity which is helped managed by a committee, made up of parents of children attending the Pre-school and members of the local community. Without this committee the pre-school would not be able to operate and we are always looking for new members to join it.
The Staff
Our staff are experienced and well qualified practitioners who have a firm belief in the value of good quality early years education. We have a range of qualifications amongst our staff ranging from Forest School status and Level 2 and 3 in early years qualifications. We all have lots of experience of working with children in the early years age range.

Parents as Partners
Our pre-school recognises parents as the first and most important educators of their children. Pre-school staff work as partners with parents in providing care and education for their child. There are many ways in which parents take part in making the pre-school a welcoming and stimulating place for children and parents, such as:
- Exchanging knowledge about their children’s needs, activities, interests and progress with the staff;
- Taking part in activities which will support their child’s development;
- Being part of the management of the pre-school *
- Taking part in events and informal discussions about the activities and curriculum provided by the pre-school;
- Joining in community activities in which the pre-school takes part;
- Building friendships with other parents in the pre-school;
- Sharing your expertise.
*As a community based, voluntary managed setting, we depend on the good will of parents and their involvement to keep running. Membership of the pre-school carries expectations on parents for their support and commitment.
